RESPONSIBLE TO:             Disability First & Smile Mediation



To Recruit Volunteer Buddies               

To Supervise & Retain Volunteers Buddies

To prepare and deliver Hate Crime Awareness Training to volunteers and mediators

To develop, maintain and assess in-service supervision, mentoring & training and development opportunities for existing and new volunteers





  1. To raise awareness of volunteering opportunities within Victims’ Voice


  1. To run Information Sessions to recruit and select volunteers in conjunction with other staff


  1. To recruit and be responsible for vetting of volunteers


  1. To co-ordinate induction, training and development of new and existing volunteers.


  1. To prepare and deliver Hate Crime Awareness training and training on all aspects of delivery of the Victims’ Voice service for volunteers


  1. To supervise and manage volunteers in their role and provide ongoing support and identify appropriate training needs.


  1. To expand work with Lancashire Police around Hate Crime Awareness for Offenders & Victims


  1. To liaise with the Open College Network in delivering accredited training courses.


  1. To deliver mentoring training to volunteers


  1. To Identify and deliver further training as necessary


  1. To oversee mentoring and development work


  1. To organise and support regular group meetings for volunteers


  1. To prepare strategies for the retention of volunteers and encourage team building.





  1. Abide by Victims’ Voice policies and procedures and ensure an anti-discriminatory approach in all aspects of your role


  1. Keep accurate records of your work and provide reports to Victims’ Voice and other agencies as requested


  1. Be prepared to work flexible hours including occasional evening/weekend meetings/events


  1. Perform other duties appropriate to your post as requested by your line manager


  1. Be willing to undergo a Disclosure and Barring Service check if successful at interview stage






Experience, knowledge and skills Essential (E) orDesirable (D)
Experience (paid or unpaid) of volunteer co-ordination, recruitment  D
Ability to project plan and implement a new service  E
Understanding of the difference between employees and volunteers and standards such as Investors in Volunteers  D
Liaison and networking skills and experience  E
Experience of delivering training  D
Experience of liaising with a variety of statutory and voluntary agencies  E
Knowledge of the issues relating to minority communities in relation to hate crime and policing, involving assisted reporting  D
Understanding of the issues facing the minority communities in Lancashire  D
Strong and demonstrable commitment to equality and diversity in its widest sense including recognition of the different needs and experiences of minority communities  E
Willingness to attend evening /weekend meetings/sessions and to travel throughout Lancashire  E
Ability to give and receive feedback objectively and sensitively and a willingness to challenge constructively.  E
Excellent written and verbal communication skills  E
Proficient in word-processing and databases, preferably in a Windows environment  E
An open and approachable manner and able to work within a team or using own initiative  E
Ability to motivate and enthuse others  E
Qualifications and training
Formal or informal qualification around mentoring or supervision or willingness to undertake further training to supervise/mentor volunteers  E
Evidence of continuing professional development (CPD)  E
