Dementia Buddy – Blackburn Rovers / Age UK

Are you a Blackburn Rovers Fan?

Can you imagine having a season ticket but not be able to attend the home matches?

Well spare a thought for Keith– he’s a sprightly 83 year old, lifelong Blackburn Rovers supporter, holds a season ticket, but he has early onset dementia and can’t get to the matches alone.

We are looking for a volunteer who could pick Keith up, take him on the match and take him home. He lives in Darwen and can catch the bus down to the ground if someone is with him. He also loves dancing, walking watching Rugby and Crown Green Bowls.  Keith worked as a harbourmaster at Preston docks, and just loves talking about football, canals, boats, lochs and ships.

He’s a very friendly sociable gentleman who lost his wife 6 years ago, but he just needs prompting and reassurance that everything is ok.

Full training will be given on how to support him and you would be helping him get the best out of life.

If you think you could accompany Keith to the home games we can offer free entry for you. He has a place in the disabled area of Ewood Park, but as a support volunteer for him, you will not pay anything to get into the match with him and we will cover your out of pocket expenses such as bus fares.
