Overall aim

Our aim is to develop a group of volunteers who will represent the hospice and promote the work we do in the communities we serve Blackburn, Darwin, Hyndburn and the ribble valley.  They will do this in the communities and groups they are already part of  such as: faith communities, cultural communities, specified localities, social clubs, work colleagues, schools, colleges, clients and professional networks.


General responsibilities

  • Attend induction training relevant to this role
  • Act in a professional manner to positively represent the hospice in the communities we serve
  • Maintain confidentiality at all times which includes patients, families, carers, staff and all aspects relating to Hospice information.
  • Work to all policies and procedures relevant to the role as indicated by the Volunteer co-ordiantor
  • Project a friendly, courteous and approachable manner at all times when representing the hospice


main responsibilities

  • Attend 6 monthly Hospice Ambassador meetings providing feedback and suggesting h development of the role
  • Promote the work of the hospice including the services we offer and fundraising events to your contacts via work, community, school, college or social groups using resources provided
  • Carry out at least one promotional activity every quarter using approved promotional resources, this may be- circulating newsletters, delivering talks and presentations, spreading the word one to one ect
  • Complete and return an evaluation for all promotional activities undertaken


Support and Training provided


  • Full day induction session covering all key aspects of the role
  • Resource pack to support promotion activities
  • Access to advice and support via Volunteer Coordinator
  • 6 monthly meetings to feedback and develop the role

AGE UK BwD – Volunteer IT Workers

We are looking for 2 volunteers to be part of our friendly team of I T Volunteers.


Their role will be to go into people’s homes and show them how to use laptops  and iPads etc.


This part of an outreach project to combat isolation. We need volunteers who are patient and are able to understand IT as well as be able to demonstrate how to use the iPad & laptops and its applications. All we need is 2 hours of your time per week.


The role will require undergoing an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service check (DBS) if you think you could be part of our team and make a difference to the lives of local  older, lonely,  isolated people then we want to hear from you.

Age UK BwD Volunteer IT Tutors

We are looking for volunteers to be part of our friendly IT Team.


If you have experience of regularly using a computer and the Internet, Knowledge of Microsoft Office and other software packages, then please get in touch!


The role will be to deliver IT classes to small groups of older people at our King Street Office or various community venues.


All we need is 4 hours of your time each week either morning or afternoon, days are negotiable.

Age UK Blackburn with Darwen is appealing for Living Well volunteers for their Here to Help Project.  Volunteers would assist with  visiting clients in their homes, assist with correspondence and making appointments, decluttering (light work) and supporting participation in activities, hobbies and interests.


You would need  good communication and motivational skills, excellent listening skills, be patient, understanding and respectful. The Ability to work off own initiative , ability to think laterally and problem solve and a good level of literacy and numeracy .


Full training will be given.
