Private medical insurance specialist Chase Templeton

AROUND 35 new jobs will be created as two firms announce expansion plans in Darwen.

ELFS Shared Services, based on Commercial Road, has created around 20 jobs while private medical insurance specialist Chase Templeton, in Arkwright Court, is in the process of recruiting 15 new staff.

 

Darwen MP Jake Berry said: “This is great news for the town in the run up to Christmas. It just goes to show Darwen is one of the best places in the country to start and run a business.

“It’s one of the reasons that we were able to announce a record low in unemployment rates recently.”

ELFS Shared Services provides payroll and financial services to 28 NHS organisations, The company has just secured four new contracts with the NHS Foundation Trusts of Greater Manchester West Mental Health, Hull and East Yorkshire Hospitals and Birmingham Community Health Care, along with Locala Community Partnerships in Batley.

Graham Gornall, director at ELFS, said: “It is very positive news for us as an organisation, because we have to compete with others such as Capita and Serco for these contracts.

“There is always a huge NHS market for these services. It’s a really great thing for the whole of the area that we are expanding the team.

“The fact we have been able to do this is testament to the good services that we provide to NHS trusts all over the country.”

Chase Templeton created 10 new jobs in the town just a few weeks ago after opening a hub in Bromley. The company is now in the process of recruiting 15 new staff, five of which have already joined the company this month.

The other 10 will join in the new year which will bring the total number of staff in Darwen to 77.

Chase Templeton has signed a lease on a new larger 2,500 square foot building adjacent to its existing offices.

More than 2,500 jobs available at Manchester Airport

Manchester Airport Jobs Fair is on Wednesday, January 13, from 11am to 7pm, at the Runway Visitor Park on Sunbank Lane, WA15 8XQ. Admission and parking are both free, and there is a free shuttle bus from the airport train station every 30 minutes.

More than 2,500 jobs will be made available across the Manchester Airport site following sustained growth in the number of passengers and planes.

Manchester Airport is planning to start the recruitment process with a jobs fair at the Runway Visitor Park on 13 January 2016 at which 26 employers will be in attendance. Employers set to feature include World Duty Free Group, Costa Coffee, WH Smith, Menzies Aviation, Holiday Inn Express and Jet2Holidays.

The areas being recruited for include airport security, check-in, baggage handling, cabin crews, retail, hospitality, aircraft dispatchers, engineering, drivers, customer service and receptionists.

Manchester Airport is already one of the largest centres of employment in the North West with more than 21,500 people directly employed onsite, supporting a further 45,000 jobs in the region.

Manchester Airport managing director Ken O’Toole said: “We are delighted that 2,500 jobs will be available across the airport site at the jobs fair in January 2016. Not only will these roles directly feed into, and increase, the 21,500 positions currently across the airport site, but they will also plug into the wider 45,000 jobs the airport indirectly supports across the region.
“Manchester Airport not only plays a vital role in providing international connectivity for the region, it is also an economic provider and job creator.

“In the North West alone the airport makes an economic impact of £1.7bn. As we grow and increase upon our 23 million passengers and 210 destinations, in turn employment and economic value will also continue to grow.”

Volunteers – Dementia Buddy Service

Volunteer/Placements

Age UK Blackburn with Darwen is urgently appealing for volunteers for their Dementia Buddy Service. Volunteers would assist with accompanying service users with low level dementia to an activity group. Full training will be given.

“We need 4 volunteers who could give us 2-3 hours, So if you have a few hours to spare on or want to get some dementia support experience, helping a person with dementia to enjoy life and live well, then we need you to get in touch!” said Fran Breckell, Dementia Service  Project Co-ordinator.

This role can be done as a college placement as long as you have the correct DBS provided by the college and intend to volunteer no less than 200 hours in the Academic Year .
